We spent Memorial Weekend exactly as it was meant to be spent--just hanging out in the sun!
Gigi, the boys and I went to Kansas City for the weekend.
We went to Sedalia and put flowers on the graves and ate at our very favorite diner. I love those shakes and onion rings!!
We spent the rest of the weekend in the backyard.
The boys made s'mores--Henry came up with the s'more dog--and played with bubbles. Lucas learned how to play croquet. He's pretty good--even without having to do do-over's. By the end of the weekend it was a toss up whether Amy or I was the best croquet player. I think we are going to have to have another go at it next time!
We also went on a "scenic" drive to watch hot air balloons take off. Sadly it started lightening on our way there so it got canceled. It would have been fun, though!
To make the weekend even better, Eli is getting old enough that he really just blends in with the other boys. So it really feels like a mass of kids running everywhere. Plus, one of our favorite girls, Jennifer, showed up on Amy's doorstep, because they "just felt like eating at Joe's"! She's so spontaneous!
It was great fun!
The croquet, the diner, Sedelia, just hanging out outside, it all reminded me a lot of when we use to spend our summers at my Grandpa Tom's.
And really, there is no better way to spend a holiday weekend than the way we use to spend them with him! I do miss him!
